Troubadours select new squad

After posters, announcements, meetings, rehearsals and auditions, the Troubadours have selected six new members to join their squad. Sophomores Sofia Gotch, Ryan Howzell, Apryl Hsu, Liam Schindler, Steve You and senior Brandon Wong, have been selected out of the 42 who auditioned.

The Troubadours are a selective singing group that performs in classrooms before December break as well as on Valentines day. The Troubadours also perform at restaurants and make a profit from their performances.

The students who auditioned were required to sing “Angles We Have Heard.”

“The audition process was hard for us,” Troubadour Senior Elizabeth Fetterolf said, “so many talented people auditioned.” Fetterolf is a returning Troubadour member.

“I tried out for Troubadours because I have always loved to sing,” sophomore Sofia Gotch said. “It seemed like the best opportunity [at the high school.]”

Gotch began singing at the age of six in the California Christmas Revels Chorus. Gotch is also a member of A Capella’s Chamber choir.

“Apryl Hsu texted me ‘Troubs buddy!’ At first I just laughed, but then just to be sure it was a joke I checked my email, and bam, there was the email telling me I had made Troubs,” Gotch said.

Hsu has had ten years of singing experience in the Piedmont Choir.

“I’m looking forward to more baked goods because they promised to bring them, but never did. Also bonding and having a good time singing with fellow students,” Hsu said.

With new members and a new year, the Troubadours decided to make adjustments for their 2012-2013 year.

“This year we are trying to focus on professionalism, music excellence, and bonding as a group,” Fetterolf said. “We really want to get some new contemporary arrangements in the spring, as well as some new Christmas songs to shake things up.”
