Afong to host “Piedmont’s got talent” fundraiser

On October 26th, the first ever “Piedmont’s Got Talent” performance will be premiering at 7:30 P.M. in the Allan Harvey Theater. This talent show will also be the first completely student-run production. Senior Greg Afong will be hosting this performing arts fundraiser in order to raise money to support the performing arts and the Breakers’ Club.

“I was inspired to organize this event by Ms. Taylor when she talked to me about it last year. We haven’t really had a chance to see a student run production that involves all the arts and I’m glad that I can make this happen,” Afong said.

The event will try to incorporate an even number of dancers, singers, and musicians. The Breakers’ Club and Troubadours plan to perform.

“I love the dance concert, and the A Capella review, and the acting plays, but I think combining everything together would be really chill,” Afong said.

Senior Billy Ireland and junior Wes Dunlap will each be an MC (Master of Ceremonies) at Piedmont’s Got Talent. Ireland said that he has spending the past couple of years getting into character for this event by studying vocal techniques and body movement strategies.

“We are going to introduce every act and we will also act as a transition between the various performances,” Ireland said.

The fundraiser will be open to everyone and the price of admission will be $5 for students and $8 for adults.

“I think this event is a great contribution for the school’s performing arts. There should be more opportunities like this for performing arts individuals,” senior Breakers’ Club member Michael Yu said.

Yu will also be performing with his younger brother, sophomore Robert Yu.

Afong said that he hopes the event will attract other students who want to perform or participate more in school activities and see what the arts have to offer.
