Students should inform themselves on the election

With the election coming up, there has been a lot of discussion on Facebook and Twitter about which candidate is smarter, which candidate is a better speaker, and even which candidate has a bigger American flag pin. Some of that discussion has turned negative and people have started attacking others for their political views.

Piedmont High School is a place where students should be able to discuss politics as long as they remain well-informed and respectful of others. We encourage political debate through social media as long as all users remain civil in their interactions and use facts to back their claims.

One way students voice their opinions is through the mock election. We challenge students who plan on participating to research candidates’ platforms and California propositions to get in the habit of informed voting.
