Piedmont Compliments hinders more meaningful personal interactions

Piedmont+Compliments+hinders+more+meaningful+personal+interactions

“He is the cause of all my happiness.” “Her hair smells amazing.” “I don’t know a girl that would not jump on that.”

These are just some of the few odd compliments shown on the new Facebook page Piedmont Compliments.

In an age where practically all interactions are impersonal, it’s now extremely important to resort back to personal a

nd real interactions.

Piedmont Compliments, w

hile it may be morale boosting, is completely ridiculous. People shouldn’t feel it necessary to resort to anonymous compliments just because that can’t handle interactions in the real world. Be real with people. If you have something nice to say to someone say it to their face.

It shouldn’t take an anonymous Facebook group to encourage people to say nice things to each other. These compliments aren’t sincere. When people have enough courage to say these things to their face, then it’s real and sincere.

I think that now more than ever, we should be stressing the importance to stop being so absorbed in the online world. Once I graduate high school, I know that I can’t rely on Facebook to make friends. People need to escape this internet mask that they have and realize that they can’t depend on the internet to get them through life. They won’t create sincere relationships if they can’t interact with people on a more personal level.

Maybe the world would be a better place if we got off the internet. People feel all this false confidence on the internet. This alternate reality is ridiculous. If you can’t handle talking to people in the world you’re set up for failure. Learn some courtesy and be genuine. Start telling people things in person, don’t hide under anonymity.

I understand that Piedmont Compliments is supposed to bring joy to people by getting compliments. I understand that high school may be difficult for some people, and one compliment could make their day that much better. But at this point it seems like some ridiculous ploy by Piedmont kids to see how many people like them.

Call me cynical but I will never see these compliments as sincere. For all we know, many of these could be written about people by themselves, in a desperate attempt for attention from their peers. And if that’s the case, they most certainly need to learn how to create sincere relationships.

In light of our respect issues at our school, I think that perhaps, if we were able to be genuine to each other in person, the school atmosphere would greatly improve.

It’s even been scientifically proven that people gain happiness from closeness to people, and that social media has diminished this. People would be so much happier if they were able to have a genuine closeness with others.

I am not against compliments, but I am against insincerity.

Be real by telling people nice things to there face. It will mean a lot more.
