Early graduation expands options

Two PHS students recently graduated early, instead of graduating in the traditional four years.

“I always wanted to go to MHS instead of PHS, but my parents had the wrong impression of MHS and didn’t want me to go there until they finally gave in last year,” Senior Lindsey Moeller said.

Moeller said that she does not really like school and wanted to be finished as early as possible. MHS allowed her to get credits from the classes there, while she finished the rest of her credits through a self-paced online website called OdysseyWare.

“Since I have been done with school I have been working way more, and now I work at Mulberries five days per week,” Moeller said.

However, Moeller will be participating in both the MHS and PHS graduation ceremonies in June.

Senior Clara Di Bartolo is another student that made the choice to graduate early. Di Bartolo said that she left PHS in January to switch to El Molino High School in Forestville, which is in Sonoma County. Di Bartolo participated in El Molino’s Independent Studies Program and graduated from there in March.

“Piedmont in general was not a good atmosphere for me. I prefer the country and the laid back environment that Forestville provides,” Di Bartolo said, “I knew I could graduate early if I left, so I did,” Di Bartolo said.

Di Bartolo started modeling last year in August and is working on getting signed.

“Being 5’6” and not 5’10” is problematic in the modeling world,” Di Bartolo said.

She has modeled for small time photographers located in San Francisco and Los Angeles, but wants to be signed in San Francisco.

“Next year I hope to attend the University of Colorado Boulder, or take a gap year and travel around northern Europe while modeling,” Di Bartolo said.

Now that she is done with high school, Di Bartolo said she is still trying to decide what she wants to do.

“When I figure out where I’m going next year I plan to work, but until then taking a break from work has been a treat,” Di Bartolo said.
