MHS fundraiser raises $8000

MHS+fundraiser+raises+%248000

Attachment-1On May 5th from 11 – 1pm at the PHS student center the MHS ASB and the Parent’s Club held a fundraiser. Because it was on Cinco de Mayo it was called Almuerzo con los Halcones. The money raised will support the upcoming trip to camp Augusta as well as the MHS Parents Club’s initiatives to promote technology and community building in the school.

Sati Shah, the leadership adviser at Millenium said that the MHS Parents Club also participates in a silent auction that raises money for technology and community building initiatives at MHS.

MHS Principal Ting Hsu Engelman also said that the MHS parents club auction is an important part to the event.

“It’s a great time for all of our families to get together and enjoy each other’s company as a school community,” Hsu said.

MHS asb member senior Gina Johnson said that the asb students worked there for five hours on Saturday and four hours on Sunday. The event had a taco truck because it was Cinco de Mayo themed.

“We made homemade salsa and guacamole and ice cream and a Mexican chocolate whipped cream dessert. We had a raffle and the parents club had a silent auction,” Johnson said.

She said that there were about 90 people in attendance and they raised about $8000.

Senior Alec Soghikian is also an asb member and he worked as a waiter at the event by serving food and setting up and also helping with the auction.

“I thought it was a good experience and I thought it was great to see all the people there come support the school and bid at the auction to donate to the MHS Asb so the have the ability to put on future events to make the community closer,” Soghikian said.

Another asb member, senior Troy Smith, also worked at the event and helped to set up. He said that his tasks included waiting tables and cleaning up along with the other MHS asb members.

“I could hardly feel my feet afterwards, but the guests were evidently happy with the service, so I’d say we did a pretty decent job in that field,” Smith said.

Although Smith spent most of his time behind the scenes near the kitchen, he said that he heard from many of the people who attended that the event was a big hit all around.
