Emily’s Army takes on the United Kingdom

Emilys Army takes on the United Kingdom

Emilys-Army-GrpEmily’s Army will be on tour from June 15 to July 29 in the United States and the United Kingdom.

Emily’s Army consists of junior Cole Becker, senior Joey Armstrong, Cal Poly San Luis Obispo first year Max Becker, and Bentley High School senior Travis Neumann.

The band performed their very first show in 2008, but had played together long before that, junior Cole Becker said.

For the first four weeks the band will be living on a bus, and in England they will trade off between hotels and friends’ houses, Cole said. This is the first time Emily’s Army will have played in England.

A booking agency, which works with record label Rise Records, helped book the band on the Warped tour and other shows in England.

“I hope to reach as many people as possible and make people have a good time,” Cole said.

Armstrong said he is most excited for having fun in general and playing shows.

“It is kind of like an ongoing party,” Armstrong said.

Armstrong said he is nervous to play the shows.

“It is nerve-racking,” Armstrong said. “Hopefully people like us.”

Max said that he is curious to see how crowds will react over the summer.

“Who knows, they may appreciate music in a whole different way, possibly for the better,” Max said. “We have been getting good pre ticket sales for our shows over there so I am so stoked.”

Cole said that the tour will keep the band in a tight knit group, as they currently are.

“Living in a bus together always has two possible outcomes,” Cole said. “One, you hate each other, but we know we love each other, or two, you keep loving each other. I think the first option, hating each other, is eventually dissolved by a brotherly love. So, if anything, we are going to become closer brothers.”

Armstrong said he loves staying in the tour bus, and wishes that the band could stay on the bus the whole tour.

“We get real cozy with each other,”Armstrong said, “I mean, we share underwear, we share socks. If I lose my toothbrush, I will share Travis’s. It is a very small space. Cuddling will happen. It is a must.”

Armstrong said that before he performs, he watches romantic comedies. His current favorite romantic comedy is When Harry Met Sally.

“[Watching romantic comedies] is the key for me,” Armstrong said.

Emily’s Army’s new album Lost at Seventeen will be released on June 11. The album will be sold all over the U.S., on iTunes, on Amazon, and in various record stores.

“For our new album, we are sending a message that the audience can relate to,” Max said. “Almost everyone has that point in high school or when they just get out of high school that the world seems like its at your fingertips but also like it could slip through your hands in a matter of seconds.”Cole said that people who strive for social change, like Woody Guthrie and Bob Dylan, unlike musicians who use their music to just say “Baby, baby, baby, oh” inspire him. Becker said he strives to send a message through his music.

“I want people to know that they are not the only people going through problems and there is always somebody there to help them,” Cole said, “Everybody, be nice to each other because there is always somebody in need.”

Armstrong said that he uses music to inspire people to do what they want to do.

“Do not let anyone tell you that you cannot do something,” Armstrong said, “Just go out and play music, or do whatever you want to do to, and do it the best you can.”

Emily’s Army will have a record release show on June 8 at the Uptown in Oakland.
