Students share their lives in six-second segments

FINALVINEThe Vine app, available for iPhone and Android users, is a way to share six seconds of their lives with Vine followers, Twitter followers, and Facebook friends.

The Vine mobile app allows users to make short clips and post them to social networking sites.

According to Android Central, the Vine app was created by Dom Hofmann and Rus Yusupov in June 2012 and was then introduced to Twitter in October 2012. The app officially debuted in January 2013.

Junior Sara Boutorabi said that the app is like Instagram but instead of taking pictures users record videos.

“I like that I can record funny moments,” Boutorabi said.

Junior Will McBain said that the app works by making multiple short clips in a row that add up to six seconds total.

“You make short videos that you can split up into clips and then post it on a [Twitter],” McBain said.

Boutorabi said she recently downloaded the app.

“I got it because a lot of my friends were making them and they all had really funny vines so I wanted to see them,” Boutorabi said.

Junior Betsy Perkocha has had the app since early May.

“I got it just to check it out because I was bored in class and someone had said that it was interesting,” Perkocha said.

McBain said that he, too, has recently downloaded the app.

Sophomore Skip Hill said he downloaded it because it sounded awesome.

“It’s an app you can make funny, little six second videos on, using stop motion,” Hill said.

McBain said that he likes making Vines.

“It’s cool because you can make the videos really funny and more than just a photo,” McBain said.

Hill said that he uses the Vine app all the time.

“I try to capture the funniest parts of my day,” Hill said.

Hill said he likes the way the app is set up.

“I like that it’s stop motion, so you can have multiple clips,” Hill said.

Boutorabi said that she likes to watch Vines other people post.

“My favorite Vine is of a guy twerking to “I’m Different” on a moving vehicle and then falling,” Boutorabi said.

Perkocha said that she likes to watch videos that other kids at school post.

“My favorite vine is one of Adam Kurkjian and Maddy Blemker almost kissing in physics,” Perkocha said.

The Vine app is currently the fourth most downloaded free app in the Apple store.
