The College and Career Center is in the process of holding college workshops for juniors from Feb. 5 to Mar. 18. Organized by College and Career Center Director Allison Bly, this is the first year these workshops have been held.

The main reason for doing these workshops was to educate juniors on what to expect in the upcoming months in terms of college applications, Bly said.IMG_1605

“In junior year there are so many decisions to make regarding colleges that it helps to have some way to narrow it down, and these workshops seems like a good way to do that,” junior Annie Pellegrini said.

During these workshops, students are given the best resources to help them research schools and learn the admission processes of different types of schools, specifically UC’s, CSU’s, community colleges and private schools, Bly said.

“The [workshops] are all capped at about 15 students so that we can fit in the Center and so it also allows them the time to ask questions,” Bly said.

In these workshops, Bly first addresses factors that go into creating the student’s college list, including academic programs, size and cost. Bly also discusses the differences between early decision and early action.

These workshops were first presented to parents in Dec. and Jan. Once the parents were educated, the workshops were made available to the students, Bly said.
