Baseball continues their NCS run

As the school year comes to a close, so does the baseball team’s tumultuous season.

“[This season’s] probably not what we expected.  I think having a younger team, this year we have a lot of sophomores and juniors, it took sometime to get going and really get that Varsity experience,” senior Lane Manalo-LeClair said. “So we got a slow start, but I think besides this last game, we were on a roll.”

This year the players that would have been on the freshman team were split between the JV and Varsity teams making them a lot bigger then previous years, said Manalo-LeClair.

“We had a very large team this year, so it was a different dynamic, but I liked it,” Manalo-LeClair said. “It was more fun cheering on teammates.”

The weather also contributed to the difficult beginning of the season, as the team lost practice time, junior Cole Kingston said.

image“Really digging ourselves out of the hole of not playing well at the beginning of the season has actually set us up for success for NCS because we feel like we’re playing a lot better than we were,” Kingston said. “It gives us motivation to show that our record doesn’t reflect how we’ve been playing.”

Due to the tough season the team grew closer, said Kingston.

“I’ve continued to play because I’m close with a lot of the guys on the team, there’s a good sense of comradery there,” said Kingston.

With NCS beginning this week the team has hopes to finish the season strong, Kingston said.

“Last year we made it to NCS Semi-Finals and it would be nice to get back there again, but we’ll see,” Manalo-LeClair said.
