History teacher Michael Sandberg has been selected to fill the open position in the Social Studies Department, Principal Adam Littlefield announced in an email on Monday. Sandberg is set to begin teaching classes on Dec 11.
“Mr. Sandberg’s attitude, skills, and knowledge during the interview and lesson delivery process resulted in the interview committee’s recommendation of Mr. Sandberg,” Littlefield said in the email.
Sandberg has taught history at Seven Hills School in Walnut Creek for the last 25 years, and served as adjunct Professor at Los Medanos College for the last seven years, teaching United States History, World History and United States Economic History, Littlefield said.
He received a Bachelor’s Degree in History from UC Santa Barbara and a Master’s Degree in History from Tufts, Littlefield said.
To ensure that students are adequately prepared for their AP tests, Littlefield and Sandberg will meet to develop an instructional plan. In January, the school will hold an information meeting as an opportunity for parents to learn about the instructional plan, Littlefield said.
“Teaching at an excellent high school like Piedmont has always been a goal of mine,” Sandberg said in a statement. “The chance to engage with students on a high intellectual level is one of the most rewarding experiences for any teacher and I look forward to the opportunity to become part of the Piedmont community.”
